Moser Baer Dvd - Bad Surface- Where To Go To Replace Them

i had bought 10 loose DVD-R 4.7GB/16x from South Delhi Stationers, Nehru Place. When i came home and checked them, three discs had some spots like thing on their surface( i.e. bad surface). when i got back to the shop, they said they are not liable for it and i should call the customer care of moser baer for replacement,etc,etc,etc. i told them that it would definitely take time and that if they could replace them, they simply said NO.
i tried to call the moser baer guys on 1600-111113 (number does not exist- and this no. is provided on their packs). then checked their site and got the no. 1800-111113. here, the phone keeps on ringing on the other end but no one picks it! :angry:
i am in a fix! what to do with those 3 bad dvd's? i can't simply throw them away (60 bucks). but also that ********* shopkeeper.
IS THERE ANY SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM?
has anyone faced the same problem?

Dude you take a risk when you buy lose dvds. What i do is buy the whole pack

Do all the halla in his shop at peak hours or put a case in consumer court(if u have bill) however first action is too cheap to do & second is way too costly & time consuming. Well what you pay for is what you get!!

Consumer court?!?!?!? Let's not get that ridiculous!!! The judicial system is already overburdened than to deal with cases of 3 bad DVDs worth Rs. 60!!!!(Which btw sounds overpriced - I thought it was Rs. 10 a dvd especially for moser baer).My sincere advice to you would be to forget it - think of it as a learning experience, and don't lose your temper or your time over something as minor. Next time don't go to that shop, and when you are buying loose DVDs, check them for such visible defects before paying for them.If you still find yourself not happy, then try finding an e-mail address to moser baer (slim chance of anything happening), or the next time you are at Nehru Place, give the shopkeeper a good yelling. Nuisance value can often get you what you want in such cases - but don't go overboard.Oh and don't buy moser baer - Get Verbatim or TDK if available. If not, then Sony. Moser baer dvds should only be used for short term transfer of data, such as to give someone some files.

That's pretty sensible advice. Cuz first of all, i seriously doubt the warranty applies to loose DVD's. I can't understand why u didn't simply buy a 10 disc spindle. Surely the difference couldn't have been much. Try to avoid buying loose discs as there are a lot counterfeits floating around (u might wanna check and confront the shopkeeper if they look tacky and suspicious). I pick up mine from an authorised distributor in Nehru Place to make sure am getting genuine stuff.

Since we're on the topic, anybody have any idea where one can get TDK or Maxell DVDR's in Nehru Place and how much they work out to per disc? The only other known brands i've come across apart from Moser Baer are Sony and HP and both were overpriced when i last checked.

I have seen TDK and Maxweel in plaika first floor cd shop that is there in the corner.Don't know about the price. And you should never buy loose DVDs and if you do, then make sure to check each and every disc.BTW, who said that DVD's are selling for 10rs ?VebMnetal the cheapest is Writex which goes for around 14Rs if you buy 10 pack.

ok, maybe I was mistaken about the price. I usually hold out till someone I know is coming from the U.S. and then ask them to bring me a 100 DVD-R spindle... works out much cheaper, and I can get whichever brand I want. I definitely recommend Verbatim btw.... not sure if they are available in Nehru Place though.

thanks for your advice guys! well i always buy the 10 dvd packs. but this time thought to go for loose dvd's. the shop is (or, was) reputed and had purchased other things too fro there, usually. but this time got the 'jhatka' of my life. the DVD's do look like counterfeit to me. i will upload a pic of it! thanks for your advice all of you. i have learnt my lesson!

Verbatim, is not available in India. And loose dvd's should be avoided no matter which shop you are buying it from And it's always better to buy larger no. of dvd's than buying 1 or 2 at a time.I personally buy atleast 25 or 50 DVD's at a time

Verbatim dvdrs are made by mitsubishi and mitsubishi dvdrs are available at nehru place.

where in nehru place to buy DVD-R? the best in quality! also, i checked an online newspaper article on moser baer's replacement warranty. it said that at few select outlets can replace the dvd's! any ideas on this?

that's interesting....... though I would suspect that to replace a disc, they would expect you to have some kind of bill/receipt to prove where and when you bought it... which most people don't really bother to get.

Do you have any evidence to back up this statement ?

I've used the +R DVDs and got very good scan quality scores with them mostly averaging mid 90s, anything under 80 gets binned and i have not got any yet. (too bad that link does not work, maybe admin will fix it).

In the meantime look here for +R & -R

Tayyo Udens give u 99-100, not that bad for an Indian Brand i would say.

I would rather say, only buy Moser-baer, if you choose to go Indian and avoid any other funky names as they are B-grade Moder Baer's.

Sony's (same with Verbatim's) sold here are made in Taiwan, similar in quality to Moser-Baer for much more.

If you get the made in Japan then maybe.

So if you are talking price/performance Moser-Baer delivers quite well. What i'm unsure of is how stable the dyes are, but i guess i will know in a few yrs.

Oh and i would agree with the others, don't buy them loose, i pay Rs.280 for a pack of 10 (cheapest i could find in BLR).

Nope no evidence. Just a little bit of bad experience with moser baer CD-R and CD-RWs, and subsequently a much better experience with Verbatims and TDK DVD-Rs. So yes, I would have to say that it's mostly a bias, but a couple of these posts have made me now want to try Moser Baers. How much does a spindle of 50 DVD-Rs cost in Nehru Place?
