Money Transfer

I would like to know, can I possibly transfer funds from India to abroad, specifically USA. I tried western union, but they only receive but I cannot send through there. I asked a few people, and they said I need clearance from the RBI first before sending money from india to a foreign country. So if there is any way, could you guys please inform me as I'll be leaving India by the end of this year hopefully.

i think bank offers traveller's checks. WU should let u send money not sure ofcourse i can buy stuff using my credit card and paypal. how legal is that is what i am not exactly sure off...not be surprised if i land in jail someday and no one is around here to admin!
