Never felt the need for a mobile up till now & neither know anything much about them. But now I am thinking about keeping a mobile at home for incoming calls/sms only. Which is the best & economic mobile service provider for my need. In live in mumbai. Some detailed advise will be appreciated friends.

a prepaid connection from from the service provider whose network is present in every corner of the room would be good.
 
I can't believe that a place where Tele-Density is 124% is having a well educated person who had never used a Mobile 😱hmy:
 
Guess I am an old fashioned guy mates, who always found my mtnl landline & internet enough for my communication needs. And I never said, I never used a mobile before, just never owned one so don't know much about buying one. But I guess this is something you ask your next door neighbor or close friend, not the internet.Did some research, one question, when you get a prepaid SIM card for a certain mobile service like Airtel, Reliance, Vodafone, BSNL, Idea, MTNL etc with lifetime validity, I heard that one has to recharge with a minimum amount every six months to keep the SIM connection alive. Is there any service as of late 2011 where lifetime actually means one doesn't have to recharge every six months to keep getting free incoming calls.MTNL need Rs.100/- minimum recharge in six months, Vodafone Rs.200/- same duration I think. Which is the best service in this regard (in Mumbai preferably).Another question, I heard many mobile services keep sending advertising messages to their users for recharging etc, which has been known to be bit annoying. Which mobile service is good in this regard.
 

airtel actually requires you to use the phone once every two months. if you don't your number might actually get sold to a new customer.

Airtel sells Prepaid SIMs @ Rs.231. So i think u can rule out that provider. Idea requires u to use ur phone atleast once in 90 days......it can get annoying if u just want to receive calls on it. I had used T24 for more than 90 days, due to which Idea card wasnt used. And that number got disconnected.Dont know if VF has any such restrictions or not.....but i guess all providers will require u to pay a minimum amount every 6 months.
 
So then, MTNL it seems.. everything I have is from MTNL..Minimum Rs.100/- recharge in six months with free incoming calls doesn't seem badAny slight network issues can be excusable since my usage is going to be minimum..
 
If mtnl's signal isn't great, you can be assured of call drops. If it works for you, then great 🙂
