do what power suggested, remove all the visual effects and stuff and make everything classic.also try going to that link he gave, its quite useful. 🙂

For those with startup troubles:

1. Change antivirus, if its of the bloated type. Example, move from NAV to SAV.

2. Try an OS re-install (clean - i.e., format C: drive & install XP as a fresh install).

3. If your (old) hardware limits you from still getting any speed improvement, then make a new Windows XP disc, using nLite and then install from that. Pay close attention to all thats present in nlite, and remove or leave things consciously. nLite makes atleast 50% difference when you remove all the shit from XP.

prathap has given a link to the nlite website. check that out.

Use registry editor to remove unnecessary startup programs. Go to start menu, click on run, enter regedit and press enter.1) Expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE2) Go to Software/Microsoft/Windows3) Now go to CurrentVersion/Run4) This shows the startup programs. Delete the ones you don't want. Now go to where you had started. Expand HKEY_CURRENT_USER and repeat steps 2 to 4.DISCLAIMER: This method should work in 95% cases but be sure to take a backup of your registry before doing this.

Go to Start>>Run>>msconfig

Find out what programs are starting automatically. Get rid of junk. Enjoy the speed boost. 😀
