1. Change antivirus, if its of the bloated type. Example, move from NAV to SAV.
2. Try an OS re-install (clean - i.e., format C: drive & install XP as a fresh install).
3. If your (old) hardware limits you from still getting any speed improvement, then make a new Windows XP disc, using nLite and then install from that. Pay close attention to all thats present in nlite, and remove or leave things consciously. nLite makes atleast 50% difference when you remove all the shit from XP.
Use registry editor to remove unnecessary startup programs. Go to start menu, click on run, enter regedit and press enter.1) Expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE2) Go to Software/Microsoft/Windows3) Now go to CurrentVersion/Run4) This shows the startup programs. Delete the ones you don't want.Now go to where you had started. Expand HKEY_CURRENT_USER and repeat steps 2 to 4.DISCLAIMER: This method should work in 95% cases but be sure to take a backup of your registry before doing this.
