Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) is working on designs for a touch-enabled watch device, executives at its suppliers said, potentially joining rivals like Apple Inc. (AAPL) in working on a new class of computing products.
Earlier this year, Microsoft asked suppliers in Asia to ship components for a potential watch-style device, the executives said. One executive said he met with Microsoft's research and development team at the software company's Redmond, Wash., headquarters. It is unclear if Microsoft will opt to move ahead with the watch, they said.

Why sudden interest in Smart watch by all leading mobile makers?
I guess after few years we may see people on road talking to their wrists (smart-watch) like some Sci-Fi movie 🙂
 
Manufacturers want to cash into the success of the Pebble Smartwatch and the Sony Live View. Plus they've realised that having a accessory compatible with their smartphone, essentially giving it a second screen, is a huge opportunity.
