See Microsoft to Make "Tough Choices" as it Unveils New Mission Statement to Employees - Thurrott.com

Something about making "tough choices" , seems to me too that they could kill off Windows Phone OS after the Windows 10 Mobile release!

Hints being steps like releasing various MS apps for iOS and Android (Office, OneDrive, Cortana etc).

What do you folks think? This will affect my next phone purchase (planned at the end of this year) for sure, might just have to go Android :(

That would be their second great dumping after WP7. Unlikely to happen. WP is actually doing well in the budget segment of the market. I cannot for example recommend an Android phone to an old uncle. WP is simpler to understand imo. Microsoft is only releasing apps for Android and iOS because they do not want people to completely get away from their ecosystem. Once you switch to alternatives like Google Drive on the phone, you might realize that there is no need to use Microsoft Office on your computer. This is probably what scares the shit out of Microsoft which explains why Microsoft Office apps are now free on Android and iOS.

Good. Thats what they deserve for ruining Nokia.

Not really. Their market share is less than 3% now.

I think we are going to see a much better version of Nokia next year. The one which is less complacent and as an underdog, they are likely to work hard at getting back their mojo :D

It would not be surprising if in 2-3 years Nokia would be selling more Android devices than total Windows Phone devices sold in the global market.

They may not totally dump Windows Phone, they may stop next versions of OS after WM10. It could be last OS, and later we could only see OS updates instead of complete overhaul in OS like happened with WP7 > WP7.5 > WP8 > WP8.1 > WM10...

But MS is also know to take big decision, so there is very rare chance that they may totally sell mobile OS business like they did with Microsoft Mediaroom platform for IPTV.

Uber is acquiring part of Bing Maps’ assets
Uber, the rideshare company is acquiring part of Bing Maps’ assets. According to TechCrunch, both of the companies have confirmed the acquisition, however, they declined to reveal the terms of the agreement. Alongside Bing’s mapping assets, Uber is reportedly acquiring 100 employees from the Bing team who are focused on Bing’s image collection activities.

Rumour: Microsoft considering dropping Windows phones, pushing Google's Android phones and tablets instead - WMPoweruser
Long time Microsoft watcher and leaker MSFTnerd has added some more fuel to the fire with a series of tweets, saying Satya Nadella and the Senior Leadership Team were debating dropping Windows phones and small tablets to save Windows, pushing instead Microsoft services on official Google Play Android tablets.

In return Microsoft would cooperate with Google in location services, video and ads, presumably pushing Google services even more on Windows users.

So now that MS has sold (looks like) its Bing Maps, MS may have to rely on HERE Maps (or Google Maps!) for its mapping solution. I think its confusing for Cortana as it is not sure which data to look for in location services (HERE Maps or Bing Maps).

Besides MS may also scale down OS development and launching of new Lumia products. We may see less Lumia launched in coming future?

I guess we can wait for a few days and find out. Let's see whether MS comes out and outrightly deny this, which they would if they are not planning on abandoning WP because this is really bad publicity. But if they don't then this is probably what they're planning to do.
