With the Mercedes-Benz Experimental Safety Vehicle (ESF) 2019 Mercedes-Benz presents a holistic safety concept for the era of automated driving.
Self-driving cars require other safety technology and occupant protection: passengers are sitting more flexibly and need other restraint systems. In addition, other road users must be able to recognise intuitively what an automated vehicle intends to do. The ESF 2019 shows what such cooperative communication with its surroundings might look like. With round about one dozen innovations on board, the ESF 2019 demonstrates that the safety engineers of Mercedes-Benz still do not run out of ideas.
