2 Mbps = 256KBps.[/b]

...still it can't go above 256 kBps theoretically...[/b]

Actually 2 Mbps = 2000 Kilobits per second and not 2048 Kilobits per second

Since we are synced at 2048 Kbps the theoretical max speed that we can get is 2048000/8 = 256,000 bytes
256,000/1024 = 250 KiloBytes/second

However the other overheads involved in the connection ie pppoe, IP,TCP, etc amount to about 13% loss.

Therefore practically the speed that we can expect to get is

2048 - 2048 * 13% = 1782 Kbps = 217 Kilobytes/second

^ u stole my words man..thats was exactly wat i was tryin to tell in my post #11download speed never got above 215 kBps for me and i feel it applies for 99.99% of 2mbps users

Come on.....lets not run behind ppl for the "B" factor. Thts a human error & most ppl in this forum will understand wht each of us r trying 2 tell. The main idea behind this topic is to gather data abt how many ppl r getting true benefits after da upgrade 😀

Yes, you're right. I didn't notice that. Sorry for posting wrong metric conversion. Edited now.

For those who are still confused -

🙂

well, i guess those who're on 2 mbps, they're synced at 2048 kbps...so there u go... 🙂

Most of em' are on 2013 Kbps and moreover I don't know much about MTNL. You can just check Wikipedia (I've supplied the link above) for the authencity of my claim.

hi ppl!
not gettin in2 b or B .
my conn speed is 1.8mbps & dnld speed is 150kbps+.
i think there is some JHOL goin on in the data transfer & they r trying 2 cheat us that's y the stupid site register.mtnl.net.in is not opening!!

Now that I've changed my plan to 199, I should legally get 2 Mbps. I called up 1504, told him that plan has been changed but speed not upgraded."Wo ji, kya hai na, ki kai jagah upgrade karne ki wajah se disturbance create ho gayi thi. Isliye wo 2 Mbps wala upgrade scheme rok diya hai".Whom should I contact now?

Just change ur Modulation setting to G.DMT & u'll find tht u get synched at 2048 & not 2013. Actually even I was facing da same problem b4.

What are you talking about dude? I've got my plan changed from 590 NU to 199 plan. they haven't changed my speed. How will chnging the modulation setting increase my speed? They have to sync it at the MTNL Exchange. I'm at 288 Kbps right now. And btw, the modulation setting was already on G.DMT.
