Laptop plugged in, but not charging

So, my laptop is plugged in but it's not charging. I've uninstalled Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method and Microsoft AC Adapter, removed the battery, restarted the laptop. It's still not charging when it's turned on. But it charges when I shut it down.

How to go about this?

How u came to conclusion charger is faulty? What about battery?

Try booting to Ubuntu or any other linux distribution using a live USB drive and see if it charges in Linux. If yes, atleast we know it is Windows.

Battery is about four months old and it has been working fine, so I don't think that's the problem.

@Nishant Yes, that makes sense. Will check it using a live distro.

Depending on model Bios may show if it's charging.

I am telling you by experience. It is not charging because charger is not able to generate enough power. First laptop works on AC then if power is left battery is charged.

Drain battery to below 50% and plugin the charger

@vishal_k Put it on charge at 37%. Same thing, wouldn't charge.

@Samuel that trick worked for me I drained battery to 20% and plugged in then it worked..

The port could also be the cause . If the laptop is very old , cleaning or reverse vaccuming may remove dirt in charging port contacts.(if exists) Rubbing alcohol can be used in the ports for cleaning .
Multimeter can be used for checking the output of your laptop charger

So I tried Ubuntu and it seems like it still wouldn't charge.

I had this issue once with my office laptop, the IT guy replaced my power adapter.

On the other hand it might be an issue with the battery too, best to test it with a new power adapter if you can manage one, else visit service center.

The battery is mere 4 months old. I suspect the culprit to be the power brick. As pointed by @mikrotik in the first post itself.
