Keeping Crt Monitor On Table Without Its Stand

I am having samsung CRT (594MG). I have a stand given which we should fix at the botton of the monitor. I just want to know whether we can keep the monitor on the table without the stand. Is it wrong? Thankyou
 
i used to do that sometime back. won't harm the monitor. the base is just to provide flexibility...
