For the past two days, I have been thoroughly scouring through the HDFury website, trying to make most sense before splurging such serious money on them.
My conclusion is that for 2D content, HDFury v3 is the real deal, rather than the newer v4 (aka 3DFury).
Why? I'll mention it in as much detail as I understand:
1.) As far as the critical issue in our case, HDCP, is concerned both HDFury 3 and HDFury 4 supports HDCP v1.1 only.
2.) As far as ANALOG output is concerned, both versions are identical in Audio and Video.
3.) However, HDFury3 supports HDMI v1.3, while HDFury4 supports HDMI v1.4.
Consider that
Tata Sky+'s digital output is HDMI v1.4. Now, the only major difference
between HDMI v1.3 and v1.4 is that the latter supports 3D content.
HDMI v1.4 is also backwards compatible with v1.3, so no problem with the cables. HDFury3 will work with TataSky+ digicomp because the 2D content will remain same irrespective of whether HDMI v1.3 is used or v1.4.
Also, many have voiced that HDFury4 has issues with HDCP protection now that they are a member of the HDCP family, therefore there is a threat that HDFury 4 may be more useless, at least in 2D space.
Therefore, I have decided to go with HDFury3. Wish me some luck!
As a side note, the price of HDFury3 is humongous. For a package 2x2 sq. inches, it costs the same $ as the Hauppauge HD-PVR! !Wow!
