Did u go to the electronic chains to check out? If no, then i reckon u shud. 1 conspiracy theory applicable here cud be that the dealer wants to sell u the CRT, which wud ultimately be a non-moving stock for him.

Thanks Jaymin, I am thinking of LED or an LCD not plasma,
What is electronic chains? googled it but dont see what it means
No, both the dealers never had any CRT TV show cased. I compared it against my current CRT TV.

----------

I am now thinking of a 40" full HD LCD TV. playing both LCD and LED simultaneously with same video, i did not notice much difference. But LCDs are lot cheaper compared to LEDs. Dealers talked about black colors being very black in LED tv against LCDs. But it seems this difference will be noticable only when you watch TV in total dark room. In my case i may not see TV in Total darkness. Also i realized that these LED TVs are edge lit. meaning there is no LED behind every pixel but only on the corners of the LCD screen. So the difference is instead of a cfl lamp in an LCD there is an LED in an LCD TV. TRUE LED TVs are mind blowingly costly. after knowing this, i am inclined towards LCDs which are cheaper and established technology.

Other than true black, few more watts of power saving, do edge lit LEDs have more advantages?

Practically, apart from the ones u mentioned theres another difference that overall, the colors look lot more truer in LED. And i dont know if this matters u, but LEDs are lot slimmer than LCDs.Richer black in LEDs, means a lot.....its not just restricted to viewing in dark rooms.Lastly, on electronic chains.....i meant to say Next, Vijay Sales, Croma, and such stores which are large scale outlets.

the only advantage LEDs have over plasma is that they consume less power . Plasma and local dimming LEDs provide about same picture quality . unless you really, really care about energy saving , i'd suggest plasma over LEDs as local-dimming LED TVs cost atleast 30-40k more than a plasma which provides the same picture quality .

Best LED TVs - CNET Reviews

just see in these articles that LED TVs which got same score as plasma TVs cost about $600-700 more than than plasma TVs .i bought my parents an LED an year ago when i didn't know much about TVs and bought a plasma for myself giving even better picture quality for 25k less just 2 months after buying the LED . you won't even save that much in energy savings unless you plan on using the same TV for another 8-9 years with really heavy use of 10+ hours everyday .
if you're going to be buying a 3D HDTV then have a look at

unless you pay attention to every little thing like me , most good brand TVs(panasonic, samsung, sony for india) will provide good picture quality whether its an LED or plasma .

I checked out few more dealers and also tried LCD, LEDs of LG, SAMSUNG, SONY models side by side all of them together. There is a small difference in each of these brands under each of these types (LCD, LED) when watching them side by side. Sony LED EX550 was infact the most vibrant with colors. However, we are not always going to see side by side. I went for a FULL HD LG LCD 32" which fit my pocket. Thanks for all your comments and guidance.

Congrats on your purchase. How much did you pay for FULL HD LG LCD 32"?I think 32" Samsung/LG full HD LED TVs (non-3D) are available for around Rs. 36,000 /-

TVs usually do not have powerful encoders inside, i doubt if they can play hd files. Best to buy one without usb support and spend 4k on a media device which can play almost all formats.
