Irctc always allots my parents seats lower berth even if I select upper. Even when there are many seats available in that train.
I select 1 lower & 1 upper so there will be one seat always available for sleeping.
Indian railway rules allows upper seat passenger to sit on lower berth but not vice versa. Now this is a necessity in SL and 3AC because there are 3 berths and middle passengers cannot sit on their seat.
But why this is allowed in 2&1AC there are only 2 berths upper and lower. Upper seat passenger can sit or sleep, but lower berth passenger doesn't have that option. They can only sleep at night.
It's so annoying. unfortunately airports are too far for many locations so trains are the only option.

Their algorithm just forces its own thing. Why even have an option for preference when it's not accounted at all.
