India in Australia 2014-15 : MS Dhoni rested for Brisbane Test | Cricket News | Australia v India | ESPN Cricinfo

Now this is big, Dhoni "rested" for 1st test, Ironical that someone who averaged so poorly in England would be captain.

MS Dhoni has been rested for the first Test against Australia in Brisbane from December 4 to ensure his recovery from a right thumb injury. In his absence, Virat Kohli will lead India in the match.

With Wriddhiman Saha expected to take the wicket-keeping gloves in Dhoni's absence, the Indian selectors have opted for another back-up, picking Naman Ojha. Ojha will travel with the team as cover for Saha only for the first Test and will return once Dhoni joins the squad.

India news : Rahul, Karn, Raina in Test squad for Australia | Cricket News | Australia v India | ESPN Cricinfo

And the squad -

India's Test squad for Australia MS Dhoni (capt), Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan, M Vijay, KL Rahul, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Rohit Sharma, Suresh Raina, Wriddhiman Saha, Naman Ojha*, R Ashwin, Karn Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav, Varun Aaron
*Ojha has been included only for the first Test.

As expected Gambhir is dropped...

Someone said that Dhoni is being rested again and again as the Supreme Court has asked to stop any kind of participation of him in the team until the Mugdal report comes out.
The BCCI doesn't want to reveal the real reason and hence keep on saying that he is rested.

lol.. then why have him 2nd Test onwards, anything happening in that one week...

So, 14 of the 15 players I named in my world cup XV (with the exception of Rayudu, who will come in the ODI scheme of things), have been selected for the test tour to Australia. The other 4 are test specialists Vijay, Pujara, Saha and newbie Rahul.

Can't believe that Dhoni can be guilty. Besides he is captained India for 2 World Cup victories. Only thing that goes against him is conflict of interest as captain of Team India, CSK, and also owning player management company and being member of company owned by BCCI chief.

Based on last few games and even popular choice 12-13 players are sort of certain. The discussion is mostly for w or 3 slots as to which players will make the cut..

^Isn't that always the case? It's the one or two fringe slots that the selectors tend to haggle and push players from their state/zone so they can keep their home boards happy.

Well, if I am not wrong in the last world cup 5-6 slots were up for grabs. Don't think except Zaheer & Harbhajan anyone else was a certainty in bowling options. Yusuf & Raina were also unsure selections. So that's like 7 people not guaranteed..

Australia 238/2 (50.0 ov)
India
Australia won the toss and elected to bat

Here we go again...the hammering has started. :-(

India avoids follow-on. Score now 322/4 against Aus 517/7 (dec).
Match result most likely "Draw".

yeaaaa we avoided follow on

SVK bro not so fast mate .. this is aussie anything can happen .. if they bowl india out 1st session tomorrow and get a lead of around 80-100 they can bat 2-3 sessions and still win on last day .. basically they can bowl us in 2 sessions also on the last day ..

Kohli gone with India still 150 behind. Aussies do have the upper hand. It will all come down to how quickly they can score and declare. 350 in 80+ covers u suspect could be then target they set.

@gaurang08 you are right. But this seem to be batting pitch and should last same till last days. Besides Indian batsman seem to be in good form except Dhawan unlike England tour. Hopefully they would not throw/lose wickets in 2nd innings as well...
