If India China goes to war then China will nuke us first at its will. Then our government will wonder, shud we nuke them? Its going to kill lots of people. And keep thinking ....booooom... china's 10th nuke bomb hits New Delhi.

The user trial of Brahmos was conducted in the Pokhran testing range of Jaisalmer in Rajasthan on Tuesday Jan 20, 2009. Sources say the Indo-Russian missile failed to hit its target after it was fired by the Army on Tuesday morning. The test-firing is first ever to be conducted by the Army after the missile was inducted in June 2007.[14]

The Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) said that there were "small hitches" in the last stage of the test-firing. DRDO officials further said."The American satellites that run the GPS had been switched off on the day Barack Obama was sworn in the United States President, they said. The missile, therefore, traveled for 112 seconds instead of the slated 84 seconds and fell 7 km away from the target".[15] However, sources say the missile did not meet its 'operational parameters' and deviated from the pre-planned course.Missile test-fire was a setback but 'quiet normal' during the development of any new missile system. More firing trials will be required to identify faults in the system.Surprisingly, the first user test firing took place almost two years after its induction indicating that the missile was being fine-tuned by the joint Indo-Russian scientific team that is working on the project.

Lamest excuse ever.

Great.... so if India goes to war with Pakistan and USA is with Pakistan then all USA has to do is switch off their GPS satellite!! Infact USA may even send ALTERED GPS data to missile and make our own missile land on INDIAN CITY instead of Pakistan!Ah, if defense technology relies on 3rd country in real-time, then WAR is lost even before it starts.

DRDO is the worst thing to happen for Indian army ..
We r better purchasing arms which r already developed ...
This Brahmos was only successful just cos of Russian involvement .. Had it been left to DRDO it would still be under development ..

Russia has its own GPS system .. So we can use tht 😀
Chinese and Europeans r also developing their own GPS system ..

Forget abt our guys developing their own system .. Will take them decades .. Better rely on Russia ..

I wud say dont rely on Russia as well.Brahmos has 300km range, so for such short distance we shud have technology that eliminates need for GPS tracking.Just feed in coordinates of the target and it shud reach there on its own.

fuk..we r fuked !

Actually they r already getting data from Russian GPS .. They have already stopped using US GPS system ..
They did after the initial tests failed .. and after using Russian GPS system it is hitting the bullseye .. I don't think without GPS it will be tht accurate ..
This is mainly anti ship missile and use from ships and submarines .. So GPS is kind of needed ..
Its new variants r implemented on Sukhoi 30 for use from air to land ..

Some info abt tht GPS issues ..

Russian r very good in technology .. MIG 21 had spoiled their name a bit ..
But Russian r best in arms technology and intelligence .. USSR's KGB was the best of its time .. They r the pioneers in the encryption methods ..

How exactly? If you need accuracy from a missile, you can't rely on inertial guidance alone. Nor can you rely on satellite navigation alone.

Umm, yes bullseye is good... but it shud have traditional system as fallback. If GPS coordinates and traditional coordinates vary by a lot say 10-15km..then it shud know that something is wrong and fall back to traditional system.Or if army already knows that GPS system is faulty or hijacked, then it shud be able to use traditional system. So atleast the missile is usable otherwise missile wud prove dead stock.

But nowadays weapons r mostly using guided technology .. They r smart weapons cos they depend on tech ..And a system like brahmos is smart weapon.. So GPS is needed.. They need to know where the target is and keep knowing their latest position while airborne .. so tht they can hit it accurately .. Its like harpoon from US but with supersonic speed..A system like prithvi is build for massive damage on land .. In tht GPS can and cannot be used .. cos there is no definite building or ship etc which it has to hit ..And the test which Brahmos failed in 2009 was basically cos GPS was not proper integrated to the tracking system .. So a mere second of blink was failing the missile ..

ok so why doesn't India have its own GPS system then.. 😛btw what does China have its own or they are also using someone elses 😀 ?

China don't have their system as yet ... But they r developing .. They too r using US GPS .. Russian system r very closed.. They allow its use for military only .. Since Brahmos is build with Russian help so we r using tht systemUS GPS have over 24 satellite to give data while Russians have only 7-8 satellite .. Russian will be launching more satellites very soon and will be opening this system for public ..Setting up GPS is a complex thing .. We need to launch quite a few sateliite for tht system to be in place .. So I think it will take us some time to even start thinking abt tht .. We need to start building more weapons locally before we can think of such a system ..Since we get weapons from other countries like Israel, Russia, US etc .. So they already have US GPS build in ..

We need to launch communication satellites first before thinking of GPS.

@devx101 .. I didn't knew abt tht .. I just checked it .. We r already making the system IRNSS .. By 2014 they r expecting it to finish .. Although it is limited to just area of 2000KM around India.. It won't even cover whole of China .. Isn't it?Let's see how long it take ..@Sai .. we already have quite a few communication satellites .. But due to recent expansion of DTH there is a shortfall in transponders ..
