as of now there are abundant ipv6 available so ISP can do it now cant say later what will happen. ION uses SLAAC with RADVD with delegated IP which according to me only supports public IP. DHCPv6 and NAT is not used as of now. sharing router page for reference
Well, just cause the LAN devices get a public IP address, doesn't mean it would be reachable from the internet. I mean it would still traverse your router, and the firewall / acl you have setup would still apply.
Just like NAT.
I'd take the Public IPV6 address any day for all my devices. 😅😅
if ports are open then it is scary otherwise there is no risk. ISP from there end has disabled PING and also IP is not static per machine and yes router firewall is there in expensive routers
Yes, I had open ports so it was dangerous. I just set up a proper firewall on the machine itself for now. IP not being static is a bit disappointing, I was hoping to host a home server or occasionally ssh into a machine from outside my network, keeping track of dynamic IPs is more work. Router firewall missing was a surprise, I think I'll just flash OpenWRT on the router to get an IPv6 firewall on my router too.
after you pointed out i closed my upnp and just opened a single port for torrent and also enabled antivirus along with firewall on router. if i find it risky i will use ipv4 and give up ipv6
IPv6 suddenly stopped working for me 3 days ago. Did anybody else face the same issue? I tried toggling all the settings but still, I am not getting the IPv6 address. IPv4 works fine. Tried contacting ION support but they completely lack technical knowledge. They couldn't even understand what is IPv6.
