hi,
i have just installed Mandrake 10.1 official on my PIII 933 128 mb ram. Now want to configure it for Server setup.any one here can guide me how to set up the DNS ,web ,mail and ftp server.

for web Access:
i am able to see my index.html ..by typing localhost , 192.168.2.10 (my pc IP on which the web server is running.. and by typing http://dnsserver.vayuntiwari.org ..

for DNS :
as you can see from above forward and reverse DNS is working ( not sure enough ! )..
but whenever i put command nslookup for 192.168.2.10 , www.vayuntiwari.org , mail.vayuntiwari.org , ftp.vayuntiwari.org it says ..like see the log..

[root@dnsserver root]# nslookup
> server dnsserver.vayuntiwari.org
Default server: dnsserver.vayuntiwari.org
Address: 127.0.0.1#53
> www.dnsserver.vayuntiwari.org
Server: dnsserver.vayuntiwari.org
Address: 127.0.0.1#53

** server can't find www.dnsserver.vayuntiwari.org: NXDOMAIN
> www.vayuntiwari.org
Server: dnsserver.vayuntiwari.org
Address: 127.0.0.1#53

www.vayuntiwari.org canonical name = vayuntiwari.org.
Name: vayuntiwari.org
Address: 192.168.2.10
> mail.vayuntiwari.org
Server: dnsserver.vayuntiwari.org
Address: 127.0.0.1#53

mail.vayuntiwari.org canonical name = vayuntiwari.org.
Name: vayuntiwari.org
Address: 192.168.2.10
> ftp.vayuntiwari.org
Server: dnsserver.vayuntiwari.org
Address: 127.0.0.1#53

ftp.vayuntiwari.org canonical name = vayuntiwari.org.
Name: vayuntiwari.org
Address: 192.168.2.10
>

which again shows my DNS is working ..but problem is THE ADDRESS: 127.0.0.1#53 (loopback address ).. because i have given my PC with IP address 192.168.2.10

see log ..

[root@dnsserver root]# ifconfig -a
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:E0:4C:15:40:43
inet addr:192.168.2.10 Bcast:192.168.2.255 Mask:255.255.255.0

but without the server comand in nslookup i am not able to see them...i am confused ..

Network description :

dsl connection :>> access point >> from access point my pc's are connected on ethernet port ...all the pc can browse the net without problem ( 2 winxp pro i mandrake with one NIC )..one more think ..what i want to know should i add one more NIC to mandrake box and connect it to access point for lan connectivity ..because when i change the DNS setting for eth0 to dnsserver ie. 192.168.2.10 (after removing the isp's DNS ) ..see the log ..

[root@dnsserver root]# nslookup
> www.vayuntiwari.org
Server: 192.168.2.10
Address: 192.168.2.10#53

www.vayuntiwari.org canonical name = vayuntiwari.org.

Address: 192.168.2.10
> mail.vayuntiwari.org
Server: 192.168.2.10

ftp.vayuntiwari.org canonical name = vayuntiwari.org.

Address: 192.168.2.10
> dnsserver.vayuntiwari.org
Server: 192.168.2.10
Address: 192.168.2.10#53

** server can't find dnsserver.vayuntiwari.org: NXDOMAIN
> 192.168.2.10
Server: 192.168.2.10
Address: 192.168.2.10#53

10.2.168.192.in-addr.arpa name = vayuntiwari.org.

but when ping 192.168.2.10 i get strange result ..!!

[root@dnsserver root]# ping 192.168.2.10
PING 192.168.2.10 (192.168.2.10) 56(84) bytes of data.

[root@dnsserver root]# ping dnsserver.vayuntiwari.org
PING server1.example.com (127.0.0.1) 56(84) bytes of data.

as you can see here nslookup give dnsserver.vayuntiwari.org ip address as
10.2.168.192.in-addr.arpa but ping shows it server1.example.com (127.0.0.1)...
i know i am almost done ..but very confused now ..no idea about this server1.example.com .how to deal with....pls advice.

Thanks In advance

I think you posted in the wrong section. Here is a link to a website that contains information about setting up various servers on a Fedora/RedHat install. Should be similar with Mandrake. Quick HOWTO: Linux Home Networking and Linux Forums Help
