Yes. Thats true. on my laptop i get 90 mbps with 2.4 Ghz. But on my Samsung A50, i get only 40 to 50 mbps.

Only if i connect to 5 ghz i get above 100 mbps speed. I problem with 5 ghz is that it wont cover whole house. Its coverage is less compared to 2.4 ghz.
Thats where mesh router workaround. my whole house is covered with 2 routers with blanket 5ghz coverage. all portable device roam on 5ghz only.
 
Try selecting only 802.11n standard and 40 mhz.

802.11b/g are very old standards and very few devices use those standard, So you can select only 802.11n standard and 40 mhz and check

I am using Poco X3. Speeds were upto 90mbps on 144 mbps link speed. So was thinking if it would improve if I move to 200 mbps plan.

Never, For a link speed of anything upto 150mbps, mac actual speeds doesn’t exceed 105-110 mbps, that too in very favourable conditions. Ex: Very few interference/less 2.4Ghz based devices in home etc.

Even if you are on 300mbps plan or 1gbps the 2.4 Ghz speeds are maxed out at 110mbps for 150mbps link speed.
 
U can't get above 60 Mbps under 5 GHz no matter wat u do . Get a small 5 GHz adapter it's not very expensive . It's better than wasting ur money 120 Mbps , that must cost a lot more than buying one 5ghz adapter a single time

Also worked in my case after changing from 20mhz to 40 ghz. It also depends on the device and the link speed.
 
20Mhz 802.11n = 72 Mbps Link speed (often rounded up to 75 for marketing)
40Mhz 802.11n = 144 Mbps Link speed (often rounded up to 150)

20Mhz 802.11n with 2x2 MIMO = 144 Mbps
40Mhz 802.11n with 2x2 MIMO = 288Mbps (rounded up to 300 for marketing)

20Mhz 802.11n with 4x4 MIMO = 288 Mbps
40Mhz 802.11n with 4x4 MIMO = 576 Mbps (Marketed as 600 Mbps 802.11n)

This is the math. The theoretical maximum with 802.11n is 576 Mbps. But this is raw throughput. There’s a 25% reduction for higher layer data transport due to MAC and IP overhead. Hence you’ll get 55Mbps (for link speed 72 Mbps), 108 Mbps (for link speed 150 Mbps), 216 Mbps (for link speed 300 Mbps), and 432 Mbps (for link speed 600 Mbps) even with the best radio conditions.

I configured my router to 40 Mhz and 11n. The link speed is just 72 mbps and the speed I'm getting is 44 mbps.
 
Phone manufacturers spec sheet should clearly specify what wifi features are they giving so that users are clearly aware.
