How to generate virtual ID (VID) for Aadhaar?

for first time: choose Generate VID
else, just to retrieve choose Retrieve VID
from second time on, choosing Generate VID will cancel the current VID and generate a new 16 digit VID.

any alternative ways? i thought it was possible to generate by sending a sms?
they really should add an option in the maadhaar app as well which would probably be the simplest way. assuming they can make it work!

On their FAQs page:
How does a resident obtain VID?
"...These options will be made available via UIDAI’s resident portal, eAadhaar download, Aadhaar Enrolment centre, mAadhaar mobile application etc. Presently, VID generation facility is available on UIDAI's resident portal. Whenever required, VID will be sent to residents via SMS on registered mobile number."

you don't have aadhaar??
and like India Post...all Telecom and Banks should allow to de-link Aadhaar and allow re-KYC via VID.
