How to change the DNS in Net Link modem

i check in the settings cant able to find it ,only defult BSNL DNS there.

any idea ?

It is better to keep BSNL Own DNS because I tried all DNS servers in india.Everything slowed down my net except cloudflare.

But now cloudflare also bad because due to some issues their indian servers are down.
I ran a DNS benchmarking utility.
Bsnl routes traffic in a very strange manner.

A trace route to mumbai from trivandrum will hop to delhi first then bangalore - chennai then mumbai.
Or trivandrum - bangalore - delhi chennai - mumbai order.

Very bad traffic routing by bsnl within india compared to airtel and jio.
Because of living in kerala international traffic and gameplay is not affected as the traffic exits india via chennai or cochin gateway nodes.

It's under Network --> LAN IP address, you need to select Manual DNS and enter the IP addresses of the DNS resolvers you want to use.

@sachinphari Not sure about Trivandrum, but in Ernakulam I've no such issues. I use DNS over TLS with Cloudflare and Google DNS. Both work great.

I get sub 20 ms latency for both too.

For me also it is sub 20ms ping to good servers.
But for some games i suffer 70ms ping to mumbai servers and to singapore it is less than that ( 50ms )
But see the traceroute listed below.

In first case ( google ),

3rd hop - bsnl delhi
5th hop - bsnl chennai

In second case (cloudflare )
3rd hop - bsnl delhi
4th hop - bsnl bangalore
7th hop - airtel coimbatore
9th hop - airtel delhi

This is how traffic gets routed and my LCO IP ( 10.212.154.1 ) is directly plugged into BSNL network around 4 kms from my home.

While playing pubg mobile i get 20ms ping normally.
When i use a custom dns like google or cloudflare it spikes to 40-70ms ping. because due to bad routing i get connected to singapore server automatically.

1. Just cause the IP location says Delhi doesn't necessarily mean it's actually getting routed through Delhi. The location info isn't that accurate and BSNL might be using that IP address in Bangalore. Same with Airtel.

For example if you check the location of one of those Google IP addresses, it shows a totally different country.

2. You are paying for a consumer broadband service for around 1-2k max, you cannot get super optimised routing and would get routed to BSNL's main POP and from there to the transit providers maybe Tata and/or Airtel etc. So you might see hops like Trivandrum --> Bangalore --> Chennai --> Bangalore etc.

3. Lastly, it's not necessarily BSNL's fault you end up on the Singapore PUBG server. CloudFlare, Google DNS etc use anycast addresses and it gets automatically routed to the closest server and depending on traffic, network congestion etc. So for instance if you end up being routed to CloudFlare Singapore, PUBG would think you are in Singapore and return the SIngapore nodes.

Also CloudFlare doesn't support ECS which basically tells your IP address subnet, so that the server can return the IP address closest to you.

TL;DR - BSNL does a pretty decent job for a home broadband service.

Can't agree with point number 2.
Because I have tried 2 other providers airtel and alliance broadband.
Their routing was perfect.
Wish I had the screenshots now.
I chose bsnl for the speed and vfm.
( I am glad we are Getting more speed than we pay for. 56mbps ,110mbps etc)
Also jio I have tried through jiofi not fiber. They also have excellent routing.
I am not asking for enterprise grade perfection nor asking to get directly connected to VSNL node in kochi.
Simply saying point a to b is going through c,d,e,f etc in bsnl.

And thanks for enlightening me more about cloudflare.

^ How are you saying that it is going through c, d, e, f? There can be multiple hops in between and as I said the location info for these intermediary hops are not that accurate. Do you really think that it can go from Kochi --> Delhi --> Chennai and back in 14ms?

Check the same trace to 8.8.8.8 with the AS number, it goes direct to Google network from BSNL's network.

Plus say for the other service provider, that specific destination might have looked good for you, but there can be many others destinations which you aren't checking that aren't so good. The point is you are not going to get super optimised for every destination you can think of on a home broadband service.
