How is your ISP doing with increased traffic due to the COVID-19?

Let alone single digit, how is it even possible to have 2 digit latency to US/EU from India

@lucifer A friend of mine who's doing his M. Tech CSE with networking as his specialisation says it's likely due to miscalculations on some devices on the route, which can happen especially with peak traffic.

Latency goes for a toss in the afternoons 😞😞

Really!!! And with only this increase I get crap speeds in the evening & nights☹🤦‍♂️ And this is the strength & reliability of our networks 😲

So these ISPs are creating an illusion as if their network will crash anytime

Can you guys please help in clearing doubt about the fact that how much the telecom infrastructure is stressed?
It is very essential to see facts than making assumptions.
For the unknown, most of the wireless networks except BSNL,MTNL😂 daiky see usage above 95 percent of their capacity in peak days in majority of the operational areas.
Except for VIL in some areas,Airtel and Jio have very low spectrum to handle end users despite having great backhaul, specially Jio has great backhaul but scarcity if spectrum comes to haunt it.
Please stop making mere assumptions.
I am very sure that network is congested.
To check, you nay see ling in your area.
It get affected only when load is peaking.
Disclaimer_:I am in no way associated with telecom industry except having very few shares which help me get insights if required.
All views are personal.

@Kick933 @C3PO might be better perrson to answer this as they were veteran in this field.

First of all don't be decieved by fiber and backhaul bandwith info, some user Anurag Bhatia has laid down the challenges of the backhaul here:

Please stop making mere assumptions.
Without official data, users can only make assumptions based on their third-party observations like ping, speeds, jitter(which includes a lot of after effects of things going on in backhaul)

So most of my post will only be assumptions based on my observations

a) Constant Connectivity - even if not everyone utilizing 4 mbps+ , phone these days have lots of apps polling services, for rough calculation take 90 percentile usage of 1 mbps: 1mbps *100000 = 100 Gbps

b) Wireless bandwidth irrespective of 4g/5g cannot match fiber due to laws of physics and engineering challenges, yes 4g can provide upto 100mbps but not to everyone even before it faces backhaul bottlenecks.

c) Load peak is becoming symmetric : if load peaks it not just because of you alone and for your isp only, suppose your friends are on group chat any message you post/receive, polling for that happens from their side too in passive mode and in active chat polling doubles for each user(so if you are on AIRTEL and sent 1 mbps worth data, your friends on IDEA, VODA, BSNL also consume that 1 mbps +overhead).

Now do the maths and you see exponential growth of usage.

d)Backhaul capacity is not evenly distributed, bottleneck at one place may amplify the effects for others

These are just my opinions so take this with grain of salt.

Just a thought a friend in USA once told me the biz/profession which has the worst reputation there were car dealers. I wonder who will qualify for this post? 🤔Telecom - one of the most opaque & untrustworthy. I never trusted them from their inception as I knew ppl who worked in that industry (Ye undher ki baat hai) 🤣 Ofcourse there are other strong contenders for this. 😁

Guys understand one thing WORK FROM HOME doesnt affect backend capacity, most work relies on email, cloud docs, presentation etc where bandwidth requirement is negligible, people who are video conferencing they use bandwidth but whey arent on skype the whole day and remember offices schools universities are shut so those places arent consuming any data.. truth is telecom companies,ISPs are taking advantage of the situation and implying that they are helping us with extra capacity no FUP bla bla.... dont get fooled by them...
This news article proves my point.

That's true. But the main point is usage has increased not that networks are under stress. 😎
