remember the time when you watched the first DVD(or a DVDrip)??
how did it feel compared to the vcd print??..

ah and as was expected now that the days of DVD are also numbered and everybody is talking about blu ray..
the need for a better codec for rippig blu discs ray has given birth to
~h.264~
with dvds we ripped them to fit on normal cds, so now blu rips are typically dvd size!

i don't know much about the technology behind it, but you have the wiki for that
here are some screenshots from my very first H.264 encoded movie🙂...

Without something to compare with, i doubt its easy to tell the difference !

"The development of 3D displays is far ahead of the development of live action (natural) 3D video content. Currently, the biggest challenge for persuading the public to adopt 3D display technology is the lack of content, particularly the incredibly difficult task of converting legacy 2D content to 3D."

the screenshots look like they are low-resolution non-full-HD to me. (i know the actual pics are your LCD screen size of 1680x1050, but still look lower res than that, just scaled up)can you tell us what is the resolution of the video and file size you ripped? a full HD bluray movie is 1920x1080 (a.k.a. 1080p) resolution, most "1080p rips" under 8gb file size on torrents are actually lower resolution...on torrent search sites i have seen HD rip files of 22 GB sizes as well!!! those must be the real deal.now i really wish bsnl provides unlimited 2 mbps at affordable rates 😛even those DVDrips which are under 700mb are actually VCD quality (maybe slightly better). the resolution is less than the original DVD video files 🙂

The quality isn't that good really and thats understandable. If you are ripping Blu-Ray movies on a normal DVD there's not more you can ask from them. Scarlett Johansson 😀 she's so beautiful. And Bill Murray 😎 , an unbelievably talented actor.P.S i have seen some images resized to fit the forum window then why is it not the case with these images. Is it the forum software or the user ?It's really annoying having to scroll every time we read a post in such cases.

the 22gig ones which you have seen are the 'actual' copies of blue ray discs.. 'as-it-is'. the screenshots i have posted are from a 'rip' of similar discs but at half-hd (1280x720). i don't think my pc can even render a full hd movie, since i had trouble playing this too. plus i don't think i love any movie enough to be downloading 22gigs of it!

The screenshots don't look great because 1- they are scaled up to fit my screen, and 2- i posted jpegs which have quality loss of their own. only the first pic is a png.

the idea behind a rip is to keep the resolution same as the source but to reduce the bit rate without compromising too much on quality.

i made this thread to rave about the new codec which is bound to replace DivX/Xvid and not HD video!

i am downloading a 9gig, full HD 1080p rip of 'into the wild'. so please wait..😛
(i will post clickable thumbnails this time 🙂)

downloading 9 gb eh? ok then, see you next year 😛

i have been using h.264 over a year...converted all my vids to h.264 ..

Uhh.. what? h264 is not new.
Paired with Matroska, h264 = win though.

Edit: Whoops, I didn't realize this was a bumped thread.. ^^;;

umm yea. its a way better codec than Divx. used a lot these days to convert high quality animes.

matroska is container for file...i use nero recode it convert in h.264..it converts in mp4
