Alison Brie to Star in Jenji Kohan’s Female Wrestling Netflix Series ‘G.L.O.W.’

“Community” alum Alison Brie will star in Netflix’s female wrestling series “G.L.O.W.,” Variety has confirmed.
The comedy hails from “Orange Is The New Black” creator Jenji Kohan, and is based on the 1980’s league, which stands for Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling.
“G.L.O.W.” was a popular professional wrestling troupe that toured for live shows and had a self-titled show that ran until 1990. The half-hour series, which is described as showcasing “big hair and body slams,” is inspired by the real story behind the wrestlers, and will tell the fictionalized story of an out-of-work actress — played by Brie — who finds one last attempt to live her dreams in the form of a weekly series about female wrestlers. Netflix picked up “G.L.O.W.” to series in May.

Inspired by the short-lived but beloved show from the 80s, GLOW tells the fictional story of Ruth Wilder (Alison Brie), an out-of-work, struggling actress in 1980s Los Angeles who finds one last chance for stardom when she’s thrust into the glitter and spandex world of women's wrestling. In addition to working with 12 Hollywood misfits, Ruth also has to compete with Debbie Eagan (Betty Gilpin) a former soap actress who left the business to have a baby, only to be sucked back into work when her picture perfect life is not what it seems. And at the wheel is Sam Sylvia (Marc Maron), a washed-up, coked-up B-movie director who now must lead 14 women on the journey to wrestling stardom. GLOW, only on Netflix June 23.

GLOW is created by Liz Flahive (Homeland, Nurse Jackie) and Carly Mensch (Nurse Jackie, Orange Is The New Black, Weeds). Orange Is the New Black creator Jenji Kohan and Tara Herrmann executive produce alongside Flahive and Mensch who are serving as showrunners.

Finished it. Decent watch. 10 episodes of 30-35 minutes meant that it was not as tedious as watching other Netflix shows.
