The energy impact for a relatively static forum is quite high in FF. The screenshot shows its matching a twitch tab which is running a 720p 60 fps live stream. And twitch runs notoriously bad on FF.

The impact drops when tab is in background so I'm assuming its the ads trying to refresh when tab is in focus. No, I don't use ad blocker wherever possible.

This forum isn't static, I've seen it update dynamically sometimes.

that happens mostly on the latest activity page:

but in regular threads as well, there is regular polling i believe. so if you are writing a response and there is a new post posted by someone else, thread page shows you a message about that update. google ads afaik do not auto refresh to load a new ad in existing slot so that should not be the problem here. i do not use any other ad network.

do check in logged out mode. polling for updated content might not happen for guests. plus guests are served cached pages assuming one exists. i have very short caching period (300 seconds iirc) and forum is not active enough for this to generate cache pages of even the active threads in most cases i imagine.
