As I mentioned in another thread I got an ipad to play with for a few days (much to the shock and dismay of our dear admin). Here are some of my experiences and thoughts. 1. Hardware quality - superb. No doubts about it. I was impressed by how solid nexus 7 was but the finess in Apple products is palpable. 2. UI - butter smooth. Jelly Bean maybe smooth but iOS is a step ahead.3. The battery life is stupendous. I have used nexus 7 and its battery life was good, but this with bigger display (and probably bigger battery as well) takes the cake.I guess the good things end here. I have encountered a lot of problems in the last couple of days and found out I could not do a few things that were pretty simple on android. Or maybe i am a novice and the device is not jail broken and I keep comparing it to my rooted android devices. My biggest disappointment is with apps and the lack of free alternatives. Maybe I do not know the full potential of the App Store and maybe I will get better with time.1. Hard fact no. 1 - there is no gmaps app for ipad.
. I thought they had released one after the epic fail apple maps but it turns out that is only for iPhone. Don't know who should get more blame for this, apple or Google. Apple maps really suck. People who keep saying that they are improving must not be knowing about their status in India.2. There is no official gtalk app either. There is something called vtok in the app store but I have problems signing in at times. And it is not the official app.3. Every time you install a new google app, you have to sign in to it. Say you have gmail installed and you have signed in to it, and then you install google plus, you have to sign in again. This is annoying to say the least. Probably understandable that this is not a google driven system which android was.4. I had Great difficulty in finding a file explorer that could open and play files on my network locations. Esfilexplorer and astro file manager on android were superb.5. I did not know that you can not install another keyboard on an I device. What a shame. I found fleksy in App Store but there was no way to set it as default. It has a test screen and people write on this test screen, copy and paste it to wherever they want.6. I am yet to find free softwares that can Play Mkv files with sound. I googled around a bit and found out that developers are having problems because ac3 audio codec is now paid and developers can not afford to have it incorporated into media players. Never faced any problems with this on android. Mx player, free in the market can play almost anything. 7. I use an app called connectbot on android to control my Nas server. Realised that there was no app by the same name in App Store and the one that was similarw was 5$.8. No free version of tapatalk on App Store either. I believe there was a free version on android, At least you could read the forums using it though posting wasn't allowed.9. Every time you want to install a new app after a cold period, you have to validate your password. For paid apps it makes sense but for free apps? Maybe they wanted tighter security.10. When you install chrome, it gives you a message that this app may show age restricted material. Lol, how is safari different? Can I not watch porn on safariTo be continued..... Comments, suggestions and trouble shooting tips welcome. It's is an honest account so please no android apple shoot out here.
