NEW DELHI: ESPN Star Sports has inked an exclusive television rights including cable and satellite television with the International Olympic Committee for the Vancouver 2010 and London 2012 Olympic Games for 22 countries across the Indian subcontinent and South East Asia.
As per the agreement, the sports channel will deliver complete coverage of premier Olympic programming across both cable and satellite television platforms. A simultaneous transmission on IPTV and Mobile TV is also a part of the deal for sports enthusiasts residing in 22 markets across Asia.
According to the channel, while London 2012 Olympic Games is likely to account to over 200 hours of coverage, Vancouver 2010 Winter Games will provide 60 hours of coverage.

This is the first time that IOC has awarded the rights to a pay-TV platform across this region and it is a testament to our commitment of reaching out to a wide audience base across Asia with the most interesting and compelling programming. We are committed to promote the spirit of the Olympic Games and are delighted that our viewers can now be part of the excitement as they watch, share and celebrate the 2010 Winter Games, 2012 Summer Games and additional Olympic Games programming on our platforms.\"
In addition, ESPN Star Sports will also broadcast Olympic Games programming showing over 30,000 hours of Olympic Games archives covering the history of the Olympic Games.
IOC Executive Board Member Richard Carrión added, \"We are delighted to welcome ESPN Star Sports to the Olympic Movement. Their support will enable us to provide high quality coverage of the Vancouver and London Games to Olympic fans and help to promote Olympic sports across the region.\"
The deal with the IOC for Vancouver 2010 and London 2012 Olympic Games comes right after the channel acquired exclusive television rights to broadcast FIFA's stellar line-up of international football events including the 2010 FIFA World Cup and 2009 Confederations Cup for the Indian Sub-continent.
