ESPN STAR Sports gets telecast rights for 2012 London Olympics
21 Jul, 2008

NEW DELHI: The International Olympic Committee has awarded the Asian telecast rights of 2012 Olympic Games in London and 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver to ESPN STAR Sports.

The network will telecast the London Olympic Games in 22 countries across the Indian subcontinent and South East Asia.

It will provide over 200 hours of coverage for the London Games and over 60 hours of coverage for the Winter Games. In addition, ESPN STAR Sports will broadcast Olympic golden moments from over 30,000 hours of Olympic Games archives.

"We are extremely pleased to partner with the International Olympic Committee. This is the first time that IOC has awarded the rights to a pay TV platform across this region and it is a testament to our commitment of reaching out to a wide audience base across Asia with the most interesting and compelling programming," Manu Sawhney, Managing Director, ESPN STAR Sports, said.

The deal with the IOC for Vancouver 2010 and London 2012 Olympic Games comes after ESPN STAR Sports acquired exclusive television rights to broadcast 2010 FIFA World Cup and 2009 Confederations Cup for the Indian Sub-continent.
