Are there any DVR/PVR available in India ATM? Like Tivo?

If you are willing to spend ~10k, then you could use MythTV software (its free).

Its like TiVo, but you need a PC. Expenditure of 10k is for:

1. Decent TV Tuner card
2. Decent TV Out card
3. Large HDD to store vids

Yes its for PC, but with TV in and OUT you can make it work like TiVo.

I am looking for something similar to a Tivo. I want a box which I can hook up to the TV and use. Nothing to do with the PC.

Don't know why these companies (Philips / Humax) don't launch it in India.... Absence of program guides and times might be an issue.

and that is why the way CAS has been rolled out sucks. They should have incorporated DVRs straight into the whole plan, at the very least as an option. And it doesn't take a marketing genius to figure out that that technology would be very well received in India.. not to mention that it would help them make pots of money.

yeah, something like Rs. 2500 for a regular stb, Rs. 4500 for a DVR.... and of course a rental option.

There must be some shops selling imported ones in India.

That's immaterial... The main utility of DVRs are when they are synched with the EPG. Otherwise it's just a glorified VCR. For DVRs to work here they must be brought in by the service providers themselves.
