DTH googly: Consumers to pay more for new channels

dth is getting complete mess, i wonder how they do it in US and other countries.why not have all channels to every one and let every one pay.the price should be done with the trp of channels.
 
If you allow subscribers to choose channels individually, I doubt if any single household will select more than 50 of the available 140+ channels. That will have a serious impact on advertising and programming which neither industry is capable of comprehending as of now.The US is a highly advanced market as far as DTH goes with two main players, each having a few exclusive channels. Such channels are a product differentiator, just like Indian Idol being available exclusively on Sony helps it gain market share against Star Plus.Allowing people to choose the channels they want is possible only when regulators don't place artificial caps on channel price. The net result will be a higher monthly subscription, but it will help create a new bunch of niche channels which cater to a limited audience who are willing to pay for such programming.
