Dns Not Working

MTNL Freedom 995
Since the past 3 days my internet connection stops working randomly during any time of the day.My router page (192.168.1.1) shows the status as connected.I guess it is due to MTNL's faulty DNS.When my net stops working I try to use other DNS, but they also dont work.Are we allowed to change our DNS only when the previous DNS are working fine, for the new DNS to come into effect?
 
actually MTNL servers r going down from last 3 or 4 days..even open DNS wont help..the only solution is to wait till they get this fixed.
 
yup very much... both are basically different..... DNS servers just resolve your URL's to IP addresses thats it....whereas main servers connect you to the internet in the first place....
 
yes!! the condition seems to have somewhat settled down from yesterday...there wasn't ny downtime yesterday at all....
