I shifted to 220bx from beetel 100cx last week so I dont know anything about the modem settings yet. How do I disable the firewall in 220 bx? I cant get good speeds in torrents with the firewall on and I dont want to do portforwarding just completely disable the firewall.

Simple solution for that is to use Bridged mode.

@xyz2000. If you are in "always on " mode. or in "Bridged mode" re-check this.Normally it is not selected and we use external firewall programs. What is the external Firewall program you use ?In IE enter 192.168.1.1 ID admin password password Left menu select WANagainst 1/32 editNextNextNextEnable nat (* select this)Enable firewall ( * delselect , if selected )NEXTSAVESave/RebootWait for two minutes.Para two : Please. Ignore if not needed No port forwarding needed in "bridged mode "

I am using norton internet security as my firewall.
I am currently in allways on mode, I followed your instructions but I didnot get any options to enable nat or enable firewall, only options I got were "Enable IGMP multicast"( this was deselected) and " Enable WAN service" ( this was selected).
How do I configure the modem in bridge mode?

Ok I found the options through http://192.168.1.1/main.html under "Advanced setup" but after disabling the firewall I did a portscan at grc.com and most ports were open so the modem is bypassing my software firewall. configuring in bridge mode is the only option left.

@xyz2000
How do I configure the modem in bridge mode?
Please select last option Bridged in WAN page.
You must use a PPP0E dialer to connect now.
Instructions available at
PPPoE DIALER INSTALLATION
Hope this helps.
Kindly keep the firewall/av always resident/active when surfing.
I have even spybot as resident program.
As I am not familiar with Norton , presume it is FW plus antivirus program.
In case you get a virus/trojan/malware more problems will arise.

Thanks, I am going to sleep now, will try configuring the modem tomorrow.

What does this firewall do?I can't find any settings for it apart from enabling or disabling it.Why is this firewall there? Does it block dangerous websites from modifying the flash memory like DNS servers, etc to guard against phishing?Or maybe block some hacker from accessing the routing tables?Does anyone know?

Downloaded the manual. Says Firewall cannot be disabled. ( may not apply for all versions )

I am using bridge mode, its disabled in bridge mode. It can be disabled even in always on mode i have already posted that in post #4.

essbebe the manual says it cant be disabled, but we can disabled it.thats a fact! or atleast it shows disabled whereas it may still be on we never know. afterall a manual is by beetel.🙂

Disabling the firewall does increase torrent speeds as reported by Demigod😛
