Digital Player which can play HD + 5.1 / An alternate to PS3 ?

I use PS3 to watch movies as it pretty much doubles are media hub , but its lack to support MKV and so many hours trying to convert mkv to readable ones by ps3, is making me to look for alternatives.
A small player, not a dvd/bluray kind of player , but a small device which can run video/audio/pictures from USB/network/HDD and also support 5.1 output via Optical.
Can anyone suggest a good such player ?
 
you can go for western digital media player it suits your need it supports all type of media formats
