I tried to port forward on my Win-XP PC running Airtel 256K on a beetel 220bx modem(bridging connection). I use azureus and even after setting a static IP and forwarding the port using telnet(as webpage did not have that option) I am not seeing any payback.

Read in some forum about turning off DHCP and then did so using telnet option. Now the telnet as well as access to modem settings using http://192.168.1.1/main.html page stopped working. I am able to connect to the internet but seeing the error "limited or no connection" on my Local area connection.

Can someone help me out???

Changing the DHCP settings will NOT cause the problem you have mentioned. The router will stop responding to telnet or http requests, if you turn off telnet and http on the local LAN(via the router settings) or If you have changed the IP address of your router(locally).

The solution :

Warning :- This will reset your router to factory settings. You must know your
account username and password. If you are unsure, you can call up Customer care and get the same.

1. Take a sharp object eg. pen, compass etc.

2. Find the tiny hole at the back of the router, it is located just next to the ethernet jack.

3. Insert the sharp object inside the hole and wait for the router to reboot( this might take 15-30 seconds).

4. Your router is now reset to factory settings.

5. goto http://192.168.1.1, username: admin password: password

6. Find the WAN option.

7. Edit the PPPoE_1_32 service, select the default values for all screens except the username, password screen.

8. Save/Reboot the router.

9. You can now surf.

Portforwarding options are available under, http://192.168.1.1/main.html > Advanced setup > WAN > NAT > Virtual servers.

Come back if you need help.

1. Did you try reset with power on to the modem ?2. Start/Network/Local Area connection/Properties TCP/IP properties. Check assign IP address automatically. enter DNS 208.67.220.220 and 208.67.222.222 ( open DNS)Default gateway should appear as 192.168.1.1PRIVATE IP ADDRESS LAN 169.254.8.62. ( does not seem to belong to Airtel )The dynamic IP address you have given 122.64.xx.xx is for Airtel. I am on Airtel now and my Dynamic IP address is 122.164.50.248 in Chennai.Nothing secret about it !This will change next time I connect to Airtel.

There are two types of resets. Soft and hard. You did a soft reset, I told you do perform a HARD reset, thus restoring your router to the original factory settings.

Insert the sharp object, keep it pressed for at least 30 seconds, donot let your object slip out of the hole, otherwise the modem will just soft reset.
