Dell has on its website six Athlon 64 chips for sale. These range from speeds of 2.0 GHz to 2.8 GHz. They are priced from $219.27 for the Athlon 3500+ to $1,102.91 for an Athlon 57-FX. The company said that they are finally offering only the processors for sale due to high consumer demand. Dell representative Bruce Anderson spoke on the possibilities of any AMD powered Dell machine: “Dell is constantly evaluating new technologies and at the present time, we don’t have AMD processor-based systems in our portfolio.”

The problem is that AMD, though good, are terrible at marketing, supply and stocking. So Dell can't really rely on AMD meeting Dell's requirements as Intel does 🙂

intel give them huge discounts on their processors for not using intel ones. everyone else sells amd based computers. Dell is kinda following anti-competitive spirit here.

It's not just intel. It's M$ too 😉 But since now that AMD is cosying up with M$, may be all that may change!

well ms did delay the launch of ms xp 64 edition till the time intel launched their 64 bit processor. that was ms fault considering they never successfully made it a success.

They never wanted to release xp 64bit as Vista was on their minds! XP 64bit wont make much of a difference to them as AMD / Intel proccys can run them. Infact they have had more headaches as 64bit machines require 64bit drivers 😉
