Delhi To Go Wi-fi In January 2007

October 27 2006 From a bench in Cannaught place central park, or a spot overlooking Palika Bazar, or sipping Coffee in any restaurant , Delhi resident will be able to access the Internet through a wireless - and cost free – Delhi Government network.

Delhi Information technology (IT) Secretary Dr G.Narender Kumar, speaking at whilespeaking at a three day ‘South Asia e-Government Summit’ organized jointly by Department of information Technology, government of India by the Society for Promotion of e-Governance (SPEG) said that by January 2007 delhi’s cannaught place will have free Wi_Fi (Wireless) internet services as part of Delhi Government’s plan to make capital Wi-Fi enabled.

“After gauging its success in Cannaught place it will be introduced in major areas of Delhi including delhi Haat, Greater Kailash, Nehru Place and other business and tourist attraction places. Apart from providing normal internet services it will also help the local business grow” said Dr Kumar.

It will take them 2-3 years to reach even famous markets by that time i think Wimax will be on start so who need wifi!!

wifi and wimax can surely co-exist. wimax can be used to power wifi hubs. not every laptop in the next 2 years in india would ship with a wimax card. but wifi is finally becoming a regular feature with laptops.

^^^ya and thats why they only loot mumbai with exhorbitant prices on everything from Petrol price to every other commodity price.Mumbai is the highest tax paying city in the country, so called commercial capital...
