It needs SSH access, so nope. It should work over WiFi of the ONT or using a LAN port on the ONT. You can even host this on android using termux
 
You can access it without doing any of that as long as you are using a different range for your home net.
Add an ip address in the default range of ont on your router on the underlying interface that's being used by pppoe connection, Configure firewall properly to allow this traffic and then you can access ont without doing any extra work.
 
Does anyone have a spare Nokia G-2425G-A that they can send me? I can't afford to take my internet down when I am testing stuff for this project 😆
 

@albonycal interesting project alright..some ideas:

a) Firewall states, blocks/rejects
b) Interface link speeds (LAN/WAN)

Not sure if these are possible with this basic router though you can check.
 
nearly everything is possible, it's a linux box in the end 😀
Why do you want interface link speeds? I already have a thing which shows the overall bandwidth usage
