I am currently on a 8Mbps plan with a FUP of 28 Gb.
I feel I will exhaust this FUP quite easily.
I am wondering , if there is any way to limit the download speed when NOT required ? For example 2 Mbps would be good enough at many times.
When I am in need of more speed (download movies etc) , I can set it back to 8Mbps .
Whats the best way to do this ? Is it possible in modem settings ?
Thanks in advance for any reply ..

I have Bandwidth Control in my router...... with it I can limit both download/upload speeds...... so if u hav such a feature in ur router then its possible....... otherwise there might be other softwares tht do the same thing......

Which Router do you use ? I have a Beetel 410TC1 given by MTNL

What modem/router do you have? A basic model will not usually have these features.
If you only want to control bandwidth only on your computer, try http://www.netlimiter.com/
I have a Beetel 410TC1 modem. Given by MTNL. I think I am not finding a bandwidth control feature in its properties... But since there are so many options there , I am not sure if I understand them all. Does it support bandwidth control ?
Thanks for the link , I will also try net limiter.

just did't understand the point of limiting speeds. Yes, i can think of network monitor app so that i didnt exhaust my fup limit or total data, but limiting speeds wil just increase time because no matter what your download speed is a 4 mb file will take 4 mb always

For example YouTube defaults to 1080p or 720p video quality if it sees your bandwidth . Some other sites also have a low bandwidth and high bandwidth versions..
Or even if 2 users are sharing my connection , I can limit the other person's bandwidth
Basically I wanted to save the data (when not necessary) and use it when it matters the most. Thats why I want a bandwidth control of my own

But I agree as someone mentioned... 4mb website will take 4mb on lower bandwidth.
apart from youtube and other video sites I doubt there are more sites where bandwidth matters.
So bandwidth limiter will just increase your time setting up and disable and enable thing.
It will be useful only if ISP notice that you are only using 8mbps for that 28gb in that case it will be helpful
