connecting an existant ethernet connection on a mac book pro

hi there..this might seem like a basic question out here in India..but its kinda confusing for me so..here goes..im trying to connect my brothers exsistant tata broadband internet connection on my bac book pro using his Ethernet cable.he is using a pc ..but we found the ip address,subnet mask,dns gateway values ,etc and fed em into my mac...i pinged the server and there is a response so i know the routing and the connection works..but i cant aces the net..i put the url for the tata login page on safari but it still does not work..can anybody suggest a solution..?i called up the dudes in tata but they dont know anything bout mac's so......need to use my mail client ,etc and its all routed through my machine...some suggestions would really help...cheers.
