hey frnz, need some helpi want to know if i can connect my landline phone to pc for receiving and making calls on my landline phone via pc. does anybody know how to? pls help
Yes it's possible and I had done this a long time ago just casually (maybe 9 - 10 yrs back). I had used a software from Symantec (I'm not sure if it was Symantec and even I forgot its name too) which is actually a phone with an answering machine and it used to work properly on Windows 98. It's not worth though.
what do you mean by not worth?? i just want to receive and dial calls from my home landline via pc with good sound quality. did the s/w u used do that for you without any problem?? if possible, search for the s/w name and let me know.

I said it's not worth because the software that I had used was not so stable and used to crash, and also the usual error on Windows 98 'This program has performed an illegal operation and needs to close'. The sound quality was the same as of a landline phone. I'll try to recollect the name of software and will post here. But I doubt whether that software would be still under development for newere OSes like XP, Vista and 7.
ok sure. the thing behind doing all the exercise is that i have 2 phones (corded) one on my pc desk and one in kitchen. we are really missing a phone in the hall so if i manage to do this i can move the phone to the hall and the need for a phone on pc desk will also be met with 🙂

Why don't you buy a basic landline phone for your computer desk, the cheapest one costs just 200 bucks. Moreover, if the PC is off you wont be able to use the phone too. A Google search for your requirement got me to this page, have a look. There are some softwares mentioned in that thread which you can try out. Hope you know that for this purpose you need a dial-up modem on your PC.
