Hello Gents,

I'm a newbie in the online forums circle. Apologies if this is not an appropriate way for A2A.
My question is if every Huawei ONT/ONU can be forced to work with either PON network, i.e. EPON and GPON. I got curious to know it as I came across an article for the naming convention used in the Huawei ecosystem.
For example, HG8145v5;
The first letter represents Upstream transmission mode of an ONT:
-H: PON-based upstream transmission
- L: LAN-based upstream transmission

The second letter represents Upstream transmission technology of an ONT:
- G: current mainstream technology (EPON/GPON ONT
-N: next-generation technology (10G PON ONT) - S: smart ONT

and so on.

So in effect, HG8145v5 can be said to be an xPON device supporting both EPON and GPON in a single box, is that correct?
Actually I'm looking for a tier 1 OEM's xPON (my connection is through EPON OLT). But hardly there is any brand other than the crap of Syrotechs and DBCs etc.

I'm obliged if someone with insight could help me answer this quandary. Thanks.

Hello Admins,

It was my first attempt at online forum etiquette so my apologies.

In pursuant to my concerns, I was referring to Huawei ONU and ONT Naming Rules(New)

Thanks

Hello Gents,

Can anyone confirm about the XPON compatibility of Huawei chassis? Specifically, the HG8145V.

Apart from that, any community member ever ran a XGPON based terminal? Does it pose any problem to register with legacy PON on an OLT?

Thanks
