parental controls.

i think it enable the kids to control what their parents can see on television.[/b]

Yeah. I agree mate.

vebmetal i think this discussion will go on and on but here is my brief reply.

Earlier we used to have no parity in the amount we paid to our local cablewallah as it differed from region to region depending on the socio - economic status of the said area in question. The only reason why operators would offer cable to poor people at cheap rates was because they could make up for that by under declaring their connections. It's not like the operators really care about the poor people. You opinion about airtel is spot on but the reason why airtel was able to offer you good service was because they are an big organization with a lot of money and more importantly they were competing with other isps. Who were the cablewallah's competing against ? They were the supreme authority and got away with anything coz they knew we had no choice.

Another very important thing you fail to notice is through CAS we will be finally shifting towards the Digital regime and i'm sure you are aware of the numerous benefits of that over analog one. With new channels being added at a very fast rate there is no way the existing method will be able to carry all the channels to your home with clarity.

Give programs Parental Control ratings on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being hardcore pornography, and 1 being cartoons. Then leave it upto subscribers (parents) to decide what level of programming they want in their house. It took me all of 2 minutes to think that one up. Clearly they didn't put in those 2 minutes.[/b]
Frankly that is a ridiculous suggestion and is very difficult to implement coz grading very program would be a herculean task and very controversial in a country like india. A simpler solution is to grade it as Adult or Universal , that is it. I'm sure there is parental control in every STB and that is not the reason for the AXN fracas but the I&B Ministry where 2 people sit and decide for a billion poeple what is suitable to watch and what is not.

The price correction will happen but it will take time as only after a total rollout of the cas in the metros will the MSOs and Broadcasters have an idea about the real popularity of their channel. And if they start lagging behind then they will have no option but to reduce the channel price to increase their reach.

Lastly "conditional access" and "CAS" are not the same thing as the latter involves the scumbag , cablewallah 😛 and like i said DTH and IPTV give you an option in choosing the service whereas CAS doesn't.

I think we both agree to disagree. Especially on the point on whether it would be a herculean task or even controversial.Censorship in essence will always depend on a very very small number of people to decide what is appropriate and what is not. That's why I don't like it. But in the context of India, especially modern urban India where both parents are working, it can't be done away with.Anyway, the long and short of it is that I think my suggested system would work and be feasible. You think it's bakwaas. Doesn't matter. Neither of us are calling the shots anyway. 😛

Soft spot for CAS ? I have never said that i'm going for CAS or that CAS is the best option. What i support is conditional access and that includes CAS , DTH and IPTV. It's funny that you complain about your cable bill jumping to 1000 Rs in CAS regime but fail to see that it would be a similar case with IPTV. As for CAS benefiting only middle class households and poorer people being screwed with the price rise , all i can say is that's a load of bollox. It's so typical of us indians to first complain about the lack of quality and then when it does arrive , moan about the prices which are justified.

It's sad to see that a new system is being termed as stupid without it being given a chance to prove itself.
I completely agree with Mahkaal and CAS should be given its due credit and it will prove to be D' best option among IPTV and DTH as these modes have few major drawback, the only flaw with CAS is unprofessional attitude of few Cable Wallah's and i', sure they will improve or move with time
