Can I use 2G sim card on 3G data card?

Can I use 2G sim card on 3G data card? If yes, then can I activate 3G on that sim card. I use Idea sim card & 3G is not activated on it now can I use the same sim card on my unlocked 3G data card to get 3G service?

yes u can very well activate 3g on the sim.the only thing is tht ur cell phone or ur internet dongle should be 3g compatible,it has nothing to do with the sim ( meaning tht the a sim is not 2g or 3g ).on the data card go for a data plan as u will not b using it for voice calls.
