Can DIAS modem be used for DataOne access?

I have a modem existing from my DIAS days. Now I chose to access the DataOne service and applied the option without a modem from BSNL. I tried to access the DataOne (ADSL) service through the earlier DIAS (DSL, BDSU modem) but my "LINK" option is not active at all. BSNL people are saying that this can'r work as DataOne service can't work on DIAS modem. Is it true ? Also at my home I have 4 parallel connection from the main telephone and DIAS connection used to work even in that fasion. Would it work now ?Pls help immediately as I have to apply for a new modem from BSNL otherwise by tomorrow. any help would be sincerely appreciated.Thanks,Subu

DIAS modem is incompatible with ADSL DataOne. If you chose to upgrade from DIAS to DataOne, the BSNL people would replace the DIAS modem with an ADSL modem for FREE without asking for any charge or deposit.I know a guy who upgraded from DIAS to DataOne and he got what I have mentioned above.As for the parallel connection, with this ADSL modem u will get an ADSL splitter. Just connect ur parallel phones to the "phone out" line of the splitter and it would work just fine.

Thanks a ton for your prompt support.In fact I disconnected the DIAS connection a few months back but the modem was with me as I paid Rs 3500 towards DIAS installation. now as DSL and ADSL are almost similar technology, I thought that i might not have to again give Rs 2500 towards buying another modem this time and hence I applied for DataOne without the modem. Do you know whether I have to pay again Rs 2500 for this modem if I chose to apply for upgrade now ?Regarding the parallel configuration the same worked in the DIAS connection days. actually at my premises, the main telephone line entered and then it was divided into 4 connections to provide telephone connection in 4 rooms. During DIAS, I connected the DIAS RJ232 cable in one of such room connection and it used to work fine. Do you think the same may not work this time if I apply the splitter in any of the rooms to provide data and voice separation for that room.pls advice...Thanks,Subu

Consult the Local Broadband Cell or Exchange or Broadband Helpline 16004241600 and inform them of ur situation. They will guide u. I think no extra money will be charged if u get it replaced by BSNL guys.

As for the phone line, the "line" must enter the splitter, "dsl" will go to ADSL modem and "phone" will goto ur parellel connections. See this installation guide : http://calcuttatelephones.com/dataoneinstall/bb2.html

well, as per my experience, a normal splitter would also do...i use a Rs. 10/- one...actually, there were quite a few joints in my connection, and as most ppl say that they lower the speeds, i tried to make it "no joints" directly till the modem...so i bought this splitter, where at one end u put the "line" (the wire, not the RJ-11 socket) and the other end it has two RJ-11 points...and it's working quite nicely for me, in other words, the same it was working for me earlier...so basically, no speed change even after doing all that...

U are talking about a normal telephone line splitter and not an ADSL microfilter. Isn't it ?

I think even if one pays 3500 then also one does not own the modem of DIAS and one has to return it. Pls cross check about it. Connection of parallel as rightly pointed out has to be made after the line out of the splitter. I have put the Line out into my EPABX in fact.Splitter for the Dataone is not just a splitter to make 2 connections. I am not sure why ur performance is satisfactory using it. I also feel u need a proper splitter. But then again I draw a blank as I not 100% sure.

DIAS Modem wont work on ADSL. DIAS used a poor form of ISDN technology, and is not compatible with ADSL.My friends worked on DIAS modem and they say its useless.
