Can a aircooler cool down a 8x10 room?

Hi,I cannot afford an AC as prices are sky high.yesterday i went to a mall and while checking aircoolers, i found they make surrounding area relatively bearable. so is it really worth? please suggest. Thanks in advance.
 
Yes. It can cool a 80 Sq Feet room.
 
if u will put cooler outside in window ( thief place ) then only u get good cooling.if u placed inside then ur cooler show opposite behaviour.....hot
 

I've never had an AC in my house. Coolers cool down very much here in North India. Coolers effectively work when theres no or very less humidity. Since you live in Mumbai, no one can guarantee if they'll work properly. And yeah as he said, there should be proper ventilation in the room otherwise no use of a cooler...
 
Do check aluminium coolers. . they look crappy but they work magnificently . .they cost just a li'l bit more than plastic coolers.

Can you suggest me some models?
 
If u live in mumbai, then cooler would create more humidity in your house than outside. coolers are most efficient when there is little or no humidity outside. I live in north india, so its really irritating with coolers after mid july. Well there are new kind of coolers being made, it has honeycombed like fins on the outer side. it becoming quite popular in north coz they consumes less water, cools more and are relatively fair in humidity. also they kinda expensive than aluminium builds but can be thought as a cheap yer efficient alternative to ac.
