BSNL IPTV service to cover 100 cities by Mar
New Delhi September 06, 2008

State-run telecom operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam (BSNL) has set an ambitious target of bringing almost one-fourth of the total cable TV subscriber base (82 million cable homes) in the country with the launch of its Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) service in the country.

“We hope to reach an IPTV subscriber base of about one lakh by March next year, we have received a very positive response from consumers for our IPTV services,” said a senior BSNL official. BSNL has over 30 million landline subscribers across the country.

The company, which recently launched its IPTV services in Rajasthan, is planning to bring around 100 cities under this service by the end of the current financial year. “At present, this service costs Rs 200 per month. Based on demand, we will provide more ad-on features,” said Kuldeep Goyal, chairman and managing director, BSNL.

“We also had soft launches in areas like the NCR, Bangalore and Kolkata which have received good response. In Rajasthan, where we launched this service in Jaipur and Jodhpur, we have added almost 100 subscribers a day within a week,” added the official.
