Bsnl Dataone Homeplan 500

I am using the dataone 256kbps home plan 500 scheme. I use utorrent (ver 1.6 build 474) as my torrent client and Huawei smartax mt841 modem. My system is a p4 with windows xp sp 2. Have tried the following to increase torrent download speeds1) Updated firmware on modem (no:V100R001C01B021SP03 Date: Dec 23, 2005)2) Set NAT entry to forward port no 45000 on IP address 192.168.1.223. This is the IP address set on the network settings dialog.3) configured utorrent to use port 45000. 4) Changed no of half open connections to 505) disabled upnp port mapping6) set max upload rate to 22kbps7) set global max no of connections to 10008) set protocol encryption to enabledwith all this also i am getting only 30kbps download speed. once in a while the speed goes just above 30 to abt 34kbps and comes down to abt 28kbps. On an average i get only 28kbps. Is there anything else i can do to get more speed. It would really help as i have schedule all downloads only between 1 and 8 am.bkm

What speed do u expect dude? thats the normal speed, if u want try enabling game package1 😀, it might tough 50+ KBPS

Well, i was expecting atleast abt 60kbps. Want to be sure that this is the max i can get. Any idea why we don't get more? Does BSNL restrict the speed? What is this game package?

60 KBPs ? huh , get 512 KBPS line then

u have a 256 kbps connection and the normal speed that u should get is about 32 kbps.. what you're getting is perfectly normal 🙂

Yep or as i said , use the game package1 , u will get 50+ 🙂

Max speed that u get from a 256 kbps conn is 256/8=32 Kbps. That is when ur conn is perfect. However practically upto 10 % bandwidth loss is expected and if u r getting anything above 29 Kbps d/l speed, thats good enough.

Thanks for the useful info on speed calculation. Can you please explain why we need to divide the stated bandwidth by 8 to get the actual download speed. Is this a generic calculation i can apply to all broadband services?

Just for Information -->

256kbps means 256 kilobits per second .
8 bits = 1 Byte

bit is shown be small Letter b
Byte is shown by capital Letter B

256 kbps = 256/8 kBps

And you have to schedule your downloads between
2 and 8 am . As unlimited free for plan 500
is between 2 and 8 am .
