I needed some bandwith saving tips while surfing, I use Firefox for browsing. Is there a browser like OperaMini(One we have in mobile) which optimizes the page and saves bandwith ????I have turned off Windows Update and Antivirus update, is there any other update I need to turn off.I m using two lan cards, 1 for local lan and other for Dataone so can any bandwith monitor just watch bandwith of one lan card ???

turn off pics as all the people suggested me when i d run outtaa bandwith.

use opera. turn to cached images mode only... use ad blockers. turn off all possible ads.opera mini engine does not compress data for regular browsers from what i can tell.

Ad-Block Plus for FF with the block list should eradicate pretty much all the ads. Don't turn off your Anti virus Updates, if you do get infected, you will suffer, use an AV that has incremental updates(adds new to the old).

try bitmeter, its free and has the option to select all or one of the lan cards..

Thankxx for the reply, me using Firefox with adblock and flashblockNow the only thing left is to turn off images, FF don;t have option to display cached images ???

You can do that with Ad-Block, just add the following filter to the list *.jpg, *.gif, *.png and so on for image formats. No images should display.

I have turned off Windows Update and Antivirus update,

do anything you want for bandwidth saving ..but not these two.. if you are running windows , ( you can/have to disable windows update )

what u mean by without images browsing is such a pain u can configure the filter list to whitelist the needed images like browse /download/buttons etc

try this
add these filters

/vbpgimage.php
image.php?u
customavatars
/1010110A*
/vb3*
/GetImage.do?id=
/image*
.jpg
.gif
.png
.cms
images
img

copy and save this as text file with any name
in firefox press ctrl +shift+A
use import filter option and choose append filters

then use following whitelist this will make visible almost all buttons like download now browse etc, and will whitelist security image verification codes needed when u register or login to sites and also backgrounds css style sheets
learn writting filters by visiting ADB forum - Adblock Plus Forum :: Index

Ad Block and AdBlock Plus (and Element hiding Helper)are not same. I prefer the latter which is updated regularly. You can allow individual web site/s without filtering picture's etc. instead of universal blocking. Suggest reset Tautology Bandwidth meter. With and without Ad-Block plus compare the bytes downloaded. from a web site.

Turning off anti-virus updates are gonna make u bite the dust real soon. Mark my words. There's a biiiig bad world out there kid. I use NOD32 and its WONDERFUL!! The updates come in KB. Don't you even dare turn them off especially when its a broadband and an always-on connection. I think turning off Windows Updates can save u coupla MBs but I think those too do their bit of keepin us safe, although in a different and indirect way. You can afford to turn off Win Updates if you have a solid Antivirus and a firewall. My message is loud and clear...For a few MBs the safety of your computer/network is at stake.
