Hello everyone, I have been a Sify Broadband customer since the last 6 years. Their service has been fairly decent, at least for me, until recently. Since December last year, I have had multiple problems with my broadband connection (frequent disconnection, slow browsing speed, etc). The Sify CCEs and the local cable operator were unable to resolve the problem so I decided to get rid of Sify and subscribe to a different ISP. I applied for MTNL Triband on the 14th of January this year and got it on the 4th of this month. I must say I'm really impressed with the speed... much better than Sify for sure.

There is just one little problem. I'm unable to get my D-Link GLB 802c ADSL2+ modem/router to connect to the Internet using bridge mode. This device was not provided by MTNL... I had opted to purchase my own CPE. The MTNL "engineer" had configured the router to use PPPoA/PPPoE mode and I can access the Internet just fine in that mode. But I have decided to configure my router to use bridge mode after reading its many benefits on this forum. I followed the instructions (for a different router model) provided on the following link as best as I could but I still can't get it to work in bridge mode.

I get Error 691 on trying to connect using the dialer configure in Windows XP. I called 1504 for assistance. The CCE said there was a problem with my MAC ID and that she has forwarded my complaint to the server room and someone from MTNL will call me in the next hour or so. Needless to say that never happened. Coming back to the point... Could someone explain this MAC ID problem? I have a simple setup at home. The phone line connects to the ADSL splitter. One of the lines from the splitter is attached to my phone and the other is attached to the router. A straight-through LAN cable connects the router's ethernet port to my computer's ethernet port. This has been the setup since day one. I have neither added nor removed any component (switch, router, hub, etc) from this setup. I'm just trying to configure my router to use bridge mode on the same setup. As far as I can tell, there should be no issues even if my router's/computer's MAC ID was bound to my username as long as I'm on the same setup. Also do I have to inform MTNL if I wanted to switch my router's mode from PPPoA/PPPoE to bridge and vice-versa. Do they change some setting on the MTNL server when the router mode is changed?

I'm attaching a few screenshots of my router configuration

I have tried both LLC and VC-mux encapsulation in bridge mode still no go.
