Botnet Attack on Excitel Broadband network

Received the following message from Excitel today:

Dear user,
As per DOT Cyber Swachhta Kendra, your device may be infected with botnet malware. Please visit Cyber Swachhta Kendra: "Don’t be safety blinded, be safety minded" for remediation. -EXCITEL

This is not new. It seems like Indian ISPs are forced by the government to push this message. I haven't seen this from Excitel so far but I have received this on my older connections. Last time I checked, the portal recommends installing Quick Heal on your devices for some reason. Looks like they have added a second tool named eScan to the list. So much idiocy.

I received this message too, googled it and there are multiple posts(reddit/quora etc) with lot of information after which I realised this is just a forced campaign by GOI to ISP’s. Not sure why do they do such things which shouldn’t be done.
